Dr. Kayode Fayemi was on Tuesday sworn in as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State.
In his inauguration speech, the Governor said his government will not witch-hunt the immediate past administration but would ensure that all documents were reviewed to ascertain the current status of the state‘s account.
Inaugurated alongside his deputy, Adebisi Egbese, Fayemi said he fought relentlessly to reclaim the state from those who had held it hostage for the past four years thus marking the end of what he described as an error.
While revealing that the state was currently indebted to the tune of over ₦170 billion, the 53-year-old Fayemi affirmed that within the first 100 days of his administration, the people of Ekiti will be furnished with all information regarding the state’s finances.
He assured the people that he was not interested in media trials, adding that his government would focus mainly on four core areas namely; Agriculture and Rural development, Social Investments, Infracstructure and Structural Development and AAentrenchment of a Knowledge Economy.
While inviting the losing candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Olusola Eleka to a meeting, Fyemi, the former Minister of Solid Minerals stressed that he would not sacrifice the payment of workers’ salaries for elephant projects.
He therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari, as leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to come to the aid of the state, which he said was in a state of emergency.
Dignitaries present at the inauguration were the Mr. Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State and the National Leader of the APC leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
Others were Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Chief Bisi Akande, the immediate past National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun as well the APC governorship candidate of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
