Five suspects in the killing of Mrs Bridget Agbaheme, an Igbo trader in Kano, were arraigned before a magistrate court in the ancient city today.
Those arraigned, all males, were Dauda Ahmed, Abdullahi Mustapha, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdullahi. Some other suspects were declared as being at large. Their names were given as Salawiyu, Ibrahim, Dini, Isyaku Mada, Malam Sani, Inusa Sufi and Malam Umar.
According to the charges read to the accused, Dauda Ahmad of Gorou Dutse Quarters, Kano on the 2nd day of June, 2016, at Wambai Market, Kano had a misunderstanding with Mrs Bridget Agbaheme. The charge also read that Dauda Ahmed then held her hand and slapped her in the face and “with intent to cause breach of public peace and causing death, falsely raised alarm with the shout of “Allahu Akbar” and falsely accused Mrs Bridget Agbaheme of blaspheming the Prophet Muhammed (SAW).
The charges also stated that the false alarm led to a breach of public peace and that the accused used dangerous weapons to hit the head of Mrs Agbaheme, which caused serious injuries that subsequently led to her death.”
The five accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and following the plea by the police prosecutor that the case be adjourned so police could complete their investigation, the Presiding Magistrate, Muhammad Jibrin adjourned the case to June 28. He also ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
