Scores of supporters of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar were injured on Wednesday when hoodlums, attacked the convoy of the presidential hope in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Atiku’s convoy was attacked just as he left the Palace of the Shehu of Borno to Ramat Square, venue of the presidential rally.
The injured persons have since been rushed to hospitals in the state capital.
Several vehicles were vandalised during the attack which the PDP Presidential campaign spokesperson, Senator Dino Melaye, blamed on the APC.
However, the Director of Media and Publicity for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, said the attack could be the result of the in-fighting in the Borno State chapter of the PDP, insisting that the APC had no hand in the violence.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Kamaldeen Mohammed said a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
