The Rivers State Government has announced a significant increase in the minimum wage for civil servants, setting it at N85,000, with immediate implementation. The announcement came following a closed-door meeting between Governor Siminalayi Fubara, labour leaders, and senior government officials.

George Nwaeke, the state’s Head of Service, confirmed the governor’s approval, emphasizing the immediate effect of the new wage structure. The decision marks a substantial improvement in the compensation package for state workers.

Chukwu Emecheta, Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, commended Governor Fubara for meeting workers’ expectations, highlighting the administration’s commitment to workforce welfare.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Rivers State Chairman, Alex Agwanwor, welcomed the development, noting that the increased minimum wage would help alleviate the economic challenges currently faced by workers in the state.
