The Lagos State Government has announced a ban on construction activities at night, restricting building work to between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.
The new directive was disclosed on Monday by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, during a press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja.
Dr. Olumide said the restriction is aimed at safeguarding public health, protecting the environment, and reducing incidents of building collapse in the state. “The restriction order must be strictly adhered to by those involved in building construction in the state. Relevant government agencies will enforce compliance,” he stated.
While the rule applies broadly across the state, the commissioner noted that exemptions may be granted for construction work outside the stipulated hours, but only through a formal application process. “Concessions could be granted, subject to formal application that would be treated on its merits,” he added.
The government also called on residents to report any construction activities taking place outside the approved hours, urging community participation in ensuring safe and orderly urban development.
