Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, will remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after a Kaduna State High Court adjourned ruling on his bail application to June.
Justice Darius Khobo adjourned the matter on Tuesday, ordering that El-Rufai remain in ICPC custody pending the court’s decision on whether to grant bail.
El-Rufai is facing an amended nine-count charge bordering on alleged fraud, abuse of office, and corruption. The ICPC had earlier amended the charges, making him the sole defendant in the case.
During the hearing, arguments focused on his bail application, which the prosecution opposed on grounds that he could interfere with ongoing investigations. The court subsequently postponed its ruling.
Counsel to the former governor argued that he poses no flight risk and criticised the repeated adjournments, describing them as unfair.
The case relates to allegations linked to his tenure as Governor of Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023.
The court is expected to return to the matter in June for determination of the bail application as proceedings continue.
