Vice President Kashim Shettima has formally welcomed Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing his defection as a partnership aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and development.

Speaking on Monday in Yola on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima said Fintiri and his supporters were not joining the party as strangers but as partners committed to building a nation that works.

He noted that the governor’s move reflects the responsibility of political leaders to make decisions that strengthen democratic institutions, adding that the APC remains a platform focused on governance and national progress.

Shettima also praised Fintiri’s performance in Adamawa, citing improvements in infrastructure and public services, and expressed confidence that his entry would bring fresh ideas into the party.

In his remarks, Fintiri said his decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to align with the policies of President Tinubu, which he said are placing Nigeria on a path to recovery. He pledged support for the administration and assured that the party would secure victory in the 2027 elections.

The event drew top APC leaders, including the party’s National Chairman and members of the Progressives Governors Forum, who commended the governor’s achievements and welcomed him into the party.

Highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the APC flag to Fintiri as the party leader in Adamawa State.
