The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared a force majeure on the Ikeja West–Osogbo 330kV transmission line following a destructive rainstorm that damaged key infrastructure along the route.
In a statement issued by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company said the incident occurred on Thursday when the line tripped during the storm due to a fault identified about 14.9 kilometres from the Ikeja West (Ayobo) end.
Further investigation revealed that Tower 515 collapsed at its midsection as a result of the storm, disrupting electricity transmission along the line.
TCN explained that the declaration of force majeure indicates that the disruption was caused by circumstances beyond its control, temporarily affecting its ability to maintain normal operations on the affected line.
The company said it has commenced emergency response measures, including the mobilisation of materials and technical teams to reconstruct the collapsed tower. Efforts are also underway to dismantle the damaged structure to enable swift restoration work.
Despite the incident, TCN noted that bulk power supply has not been completely cut off, as an alternative transmission line remains in operation to evacuate electricity along the corridor.
The Ikeja West–Osogbo 330kV transmission line is a critical component of Nigeria’s national grid, linking major substations and supporting electricity distribution across parts of the South-West.
