Following a petition brought against her by a civil society organization, Global Centre for Peace and Justice, the Abia State House of Assembly on Friday suspended the Chief Justice of the state, Justice Theresa Uzokwe.
The petition bordered on allegations of tyranny and obstruction of the administration of justice in the state, gross misconduct, denigration of the office of the Chief Judge as well as embezzlement of public funds.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Chikwendu Kalu while reading the resolution, announced the setting up an adhoc eight -man committee to investigate the allegations against Justice Uzokwe and report back to the House with its findings within seven days.
The State Assembly further mandated the State governor, Mr. Okezie Ikpeazu to, as a matter of urgency, appoint an Acting Chief Judge pending the completion of the committee’s investigations.
