Nigeria’s sprint queen, Blessing Okagbare – Ighoteguonor was in blistering form over the weekend, running an impressive 22.04 seconds in the 200 metres at the 2018 Wes Kittley lnvitational in Texas, the United States.
The feat by Okagbare who spent most of last season nursing an injury after going under the knife, erased the 200m Women African record held by fellow Nigerian, Mary Onyali-Omagbemi since August 1996.
Okagbare who also holds the national record in the 100m with 10.79 seconds, is expected to remain in Texas to have a go at the 100 metres to see if she can also crack the 10.18 seconds African record in the event held by Ivorian sprinter, Murielle Ahoure since 2016.
