Members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday invited President Muhamamdu Buhari to appear before them to answer questions relating to the rising spate of killings across the country, particularly in the Middle Belt region.
The Lower Chamber of the nation’s legislature also passed a vote of no confidence on all the security chiefs in the country following the renewed clashes, urging the President to immediately replace them and engender fresh ideas towards tackling the security situation in the country.
The resolutions of the House followed a motion brought under matters of urgent public importance by Hon. Mark Gbillah (APC, Benue) on the attack by alleged military personnel on innocent residents of Naka community in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
Leading the debate, Hon. Gbillah said military personnel deployed from the 72 Army Battalion in Makurdi torched hundreds of houses in Naka, resulting in the confirmed loss of two lives while hundreds of victims who survived the onslaught lost all their property.
President Buhari had ordered the Police chief, Ibrahim Idris to relocate to Benue State in the wake of the clashes while the Army also announced making deployments to the region to compliment security efforts.
The violence between nomadic herdsmen and settled farmers in the central states has killed hundreds of people, raising questions about the ability of the Buhari – led administration to provide and maintain security in the country.
