Governors from the south-east geo-political zone of Nigeria have urged all Igbos living in the northern part of the country to remain where they are and go about their normal businesses without any fear.

Rising from a meeting held at the Government House, Enugu on Monday, the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, while briefing newsmen, said the governors were devising measures to protect the lives and property of Ndigbo living in northern Nigeria.

He said the measures being taken, including being in constant touch with their fellow governors from the north, were to ensure that the threat of the quit notice given to Igbos in the north by a coalition of northern youth groups does not become a reality.

While appreciating the efforts of the Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo in seeking the safety and security of lives and property of Ndigbo, the forum also commiserated with Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State on the Ozubulu killings and Rochas Okorocha of Imo State over the collapse of a three-storey building which claimed several lives including that of a Youth Corps member.

Four of the governors, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Rochas Okorocha of Imo were physically present at the meeting while Willie Obiano of Anambra  was represented  by his deputy, Nkem Okeke.
