The Kano State Police Command has expressed displeasure over Monday’s abduction of a German construction expatriate, Mr. Michael Cremza and the killing of a police detail attached to him by armed men along the Sabon Titi– Madobi Road in the state.
Five gunmen reportedly ambushed the vehicle which was conveying workers and staff of Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company to a building site around 7:15 am and opened fire on them, leading to the death of the police sergeant who was part of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) escorting the group.
In a statement released by the Command, the state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Yusuf said a “manhunt for the abductors is ongoing”, pledging the commitment of the police towards ensuring that the culprits are arrested and the hostage safely rescued.
Abductions in Nigeria were initially targeted at expatriates in the oil-rich south-south and south-eastern parts of the country but they have since spread to the north of the country. Abductees are often released after a few days once a ransom has been paid.
