The Senate on Thursday suspended the senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District , Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for 90 legislative days over his comment on the re-ordering of the 2019 election time-table.

The Senate Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges which investigated the senator over his comments on the re-ordering of the electoral time-table following a petition by Senator Dino Melaye, recommended his suspension during plenary.

The Committee’s report which was submitted by its Chairman, Senator Samuel Anyanwu explained that the erring lawmaker declined to speak to the Committee when he appeared before them on the grounds that he had taken the matter to court.

Despite Omo-Agege’s apology and pleas from the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan that Omo-Agege’s comment on the election timetable re-ordering was his own personal opinion, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki insisted that political leaders must be disciplined to serve as deterrent to others.

Senator Saraki however reduced Omo-Agege’s suspension from the Committee’s recommended 181 days to 90 following further appeals from Senator Kabir Marafa.

The Senate also resolved that Omo-Agege should withdraw the case he instituted against the Upper Legislative Chamber and asked that the pro-Buhari ‘Parliamentary Support Group’ be disbanded.

Senator Omo-Agege who was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had in February alleged that the amendment to the Electoral Act to re-order the sequence of polls in next year’s general elections was targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari.
