Reports from the Algeria Football Federation (AFF) have indicated that Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr is being considered for the Algerian national team coaching job.

According to reports, President of the AFF, Kheiredine Zetchi and his executive were keenly interested in luring the German-born tactician from Nigeria and had shortlisted him as one of the candidates for the plum job.

The Desert Foxes recently parted ways with Rabah Madjer, following a poor run of results that saw the national team lose to Iran, Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde and Portugal in their last four friendlies.

Le Buteur, an Algerian sports newspaper reported that the qualities that endeared Rohr, who still has a contract with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) till 2020 to the Algerians included his fluency in French as well as his knowledge of African football.

“The French speaking coach is knowledgeable about African football having handled Niger, Burkina Faso and Gabon national teams and knows the mentality of Algerian players as he has managed French clubs Bordeaux, OGC Nice and Nantes”, Le Buteur was quoted as saying.
