There was pandemonium on Tuesday when violence erupted during the campaign flag off of the Lagos State Chapter of The All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Sky Power play ground located along Oba Akinjobi Road in Ikeja.

The well-attended programme which started around 12:30 pm was abruptly brought to an end when violence broke out between factions of some hoodlums suspected to be members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Reports say that just as popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshall was on the stage thrilling the audience, the hoodlums, who came with guns, matchetes, daggers and other dangerous weapons reportedly engaged themselves in a bloody fight.

It was however gathered that the fight for supremacy was between suspected supporters of a well-known NURTW leader, MC Oluomo and another leader of the union, Mustapha Adekunle popularly known as Shigo.

MC Oluomo was reportedly stabbed during the skirmish before security operatives deployed to the venue to keep watch eventually succeeded in bringing the chaotic situation under control.

The development created panic at the campaign ground as party members scampered for safety in different directions to avoid being hit by bullets fired indiscriminately by the warring hoodlums.

Speaking on the development, the Publicity Secretary of the Lagos APC, Mr. Joe Igbokwe told Channels Television that one person was killed during the fracas while several other stab victims were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Also confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in the state, CSP Chike Oti said two suspects have been arrested in connection with the clashes, adding that Shigo, who allegedly instigated the violence has been declared wanted by the Command.

In the heat of the violence, the Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode had to be whisked out of the venue alongside his deputy, Mrs. Idiat Adebule and the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
