Imprisoned former Plateau State governor and the All Progressives Congress senator representing Plateau Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Joshua Dariye has co-sponsored a motion in the Senate.

Dariye, who is currently serving a 10-year jail term, is co-sponsoring the motion with Senator Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District and 106 other senators.

During the presentation of the motion titled ‘Senseless Killing of a Briton And the Abduction of Three Others In A Holiday Resort in Kaduna State by Armed Bandits’ by Senator Shehu Sani on Thursday, Dariye’s name was listed as one of the co-sponsors.

Recall that in June 2018, the FCT High Court in Gudu had sentenced Dariye to 14 years in prison for fraud and misappropriation of funds but the Court of Appeal in Abuja later reduced the jail term to 10 years.

Though the Appeal Court affirmed that the conviction as pronounced by the Federal High Court was right, it however said the former governor ought to have been jailed for 10 years.

It therefore reduced the initial sentence of 14 years to 10 years for criminal breach of trust while a similar conviction for diversion of ₦1.62 billion ecological funds was reduced from two years to one year.

This is not the first time that Dariye would be making headlines from behind bars. In September 2018, his supporters revealed that he had purchased the APC forms to contest for a seat in the National Assembly in the 2019 elections.

He however did not get the ticket. Hezekiah Dimka who eventually got the APC ticket defeated David Paradang, a former Nigerian Immigration Service boss and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Plateau Central Senatorial District election.
