Domestic airline operators in Nigeria have threatened to withdraw flight services nationwide from Monday, citing the sharp rise in aviation fuel prices.
The warning was issued by the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), which said the cost of Jet A1 fuel has surged from about ₦900 per litre in February to over ₦3,300 per litre in recent weeks.
The operators described the increase as unsustainable, noting that current revenues can no longer cover operating costs. They warned that continued operations under the present conditions could lead to widespread financial losses across the industry.
According to the group, some airlines have already begun suspending operations, with others likely to follow if urgent intervention is not made.
The AON cautioned that a shutdown of domestic flights would have serious implications for the economy, disrupt travel nationwide, and affect jobs within the aviation sector.
The operators have called on the Federal Government to urgently address the situation by stabilising fuel prices and supporting the industry to prevent a full-scale disruption of air services.
