Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a coordinated attack by suspected ISWAP fighters on the Headquarters of 27 Brigade and the Buni Gari checkpoint in Yobe State, killing more than 50 terrorists.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Buni Gari, Gujba Local Government Area, according to a statement issued by the Joint Task Force spokesperson, Lt. Col. Sani Uba.

The military said the insurgents launched the assault from multiple directions under the cover of darkness but were repelled after a prolonged gun battle.

Troops reportedly maintained full control of the military formation throughout the encounter, with no breach recorded.

Following the attack, security forces recovered several weapons and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns, RPG tubes, RPG bombs, magazines, ammunition boxes, and IED canisters.

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also carried out air strikes targeting fleeing insurgents along escape routes.

The military confirmed that two soldiers were killed during the operation, while some personnel sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

Some military equipment, including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and gun trucks, were also said to have suffered minor damage during the battle.

Troops and allied volunteer forces have since launched follow-up operations to track down fleeing terrorists and prevent regrouping.
