The NSCDC Mining Marshals have arraigned 15 Chinese nationals and nine Nigerians before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged illegal lithium mining in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The defendants, arrested on May 16, 2026, were charged before Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia for allegedly mining without authorization within Exploration Licence No. 036528-EL, reportedly belonging to TIMADIX Geomin Consult Ltd.
The defendants comprise 15 Chinese nationals — Liu Jiabin, Hu Yunzhong, Zhou Yinmou, Zhao Feng, Zhang Yu, Tian Shuqun, Huang Ruqian, Liu Yanliang, Yang Xiaobin, Huang Meiyun, Yuan Tao, Jia Qiuyong, Chen Menghao, Deng Peiming and Yu Yanhai — as well as nine Nigerians, namely Thankgod Sani, Abubakar Nuhu, Jonathan Akpa Sunday, Pius Favour, Agada Joshua, Sani Osu, Haruna Asambe, and Elenekou Akoete Joli, alongside another defendant and C and A International New Energy Ltd.
The NSCDC said the operations occurred without a valid mining licence within the designated mineral title area.
The court adjourned the case to June 18, 2026, for trial.
