Strong indications emerged on Thursday that the last-minute attempts to settle the rift between members of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is headed for the rocks.
The nPDP members had accused the leadership of the APC of maltreating and marginalizing its members and recently alleged that they had been excluded from the constituted sub-committees that would organize the party’s upcoming national convention.
According to reports, the rift widened during the week when it was discovered that its members had again been sidelined from being part of the APC convention sub-committees, a development which further infuriated the group, provoking its members to start considering other options ahead of the 2019 elections.
Members of the two factions of the new PDP have however maintained that regardless of the developments, they were ready to wait and see the final outcome of the planned meeting which has been called by the party’s leadership to iron out grey areas.
The groups further said they would decide on their next move before the convention of the party which is scheduled to hold in June.
