President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinabjo were today at the Eagle Square in Abuja sworn in for  second terms in office by the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad.

Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was on February 27 declared winner of the February 23 presidential elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC National Chairman and the Returning Officer for the 2019 presidential elections, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said President Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had 11,262,978 votes.

Buhari was first inaugurated as President of Nigeria on May 29, 2015, making it the first time in Nigeria’s history that an opposition candidate was taking over from an incumbent President.

The 2019 presidential inauguration was heralded by a colourful military parade which received the service chiefs, CJN, the President and the Vice President as they arrived the venue.

Shortly after the swearing-in, there was the lowering and hoisting of national and defence flags and the traditional 21 gun salutes after which the President inspected the Guard of Honour and acknowledged cheers from the guests.

In attendance at the ceremony were a former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, former and serving state governors, service chiefs, members of the Federal Executive Council, Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. There was also the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole and prominent National Leader of the party, Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
