Dr. Simeon Olabukola Afolabi is a highly accomplished Audiologist and Speech Therapist whose three decades of dedicated practice have profoundly advanced specialized healthcare in Nigeria. As the Managing Audiologist and Chief Executive Officer of BSA Hearing & Speech Centre, with established centers across Lagos, Abuja, and Ibadan, he has been a tireless advocate and provider of comprehensive solutions for hearing impairment and speech disorders.
His career has been characterized by clinical excellence, effective leadership and an unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals with communication challenges.
His expertise is grounded in a strong academic foundation, culminating in a Ph.D. in Audiology obtained from the University of Ibadan in 2017. This followed his Master of Audiology (M.Aud.) degree, which he also earned from the University of Ibadan in 1995. This rigorous academic background ensures that his practice and leadership are guided by the highest levels of professional knowledge and scientific research.
Dr. Afolabi’s professional journey reflects a steady progression through key clinical roles. He began his career as a Speech Therapist at Daato Medical Centre (1994-1997), subsequently serving as an Audiologist at Adepex Hearing Centre (1996-1999) and the National Ear Care Centre (1999-2001). His entrepreneurial vision led him to establish the BSA Hearing & Speech Centre, which has grown to become a crucial provider of specialized services. He is also recognized internationally, serving as the Country Representative for major global hearing technology companies, including Cochlear Europe, Resound Hearing, Puretone, Maico, and Interacoustics.
His contributions extend beyond his private practice into national service and humanitarian work. He served as the National Secretary of the Speech Pathology & Hearing Association in Nigeria, helping to shape professional standards and collaboration across the country. Demonstrating his commitment to philanthropy, he is the Clinical Director, Healthy Hearing for Special Olympics, Nigeria, providing essential screening and care for intellectually disabled athletes. His excellence was further recognized with the prestigious Golisano Award in 2025. A prolific researcher, his publications include “Audiology and Paternity Programme: An Approach to Audiology Training” and “National Survey & Hearing Impairment in Nigeria (2001)”, which have informed policy and practice nationwide.
It was in recognition of his Sterling Contribution to Nation Building in the Sphere of Hearing and Speech Therapy that Dr. Simeon Olabukola Afolabi was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Nigerian Achievement Award.
