After a “controversial” draw in their last match in the La Liga, Barcelona returned to winning ways with a commanding 3-0 victory over Attetico Bilbao, courtesy of goals from Pacor Alcacer, Lionel Messi and Aleix Vidal.

Messi’s goal was however a record-breaking goal in the club’s history. The diminutive number 10 scored with an angle strike from the free kick spot to break a record previously held by current Everton boss, Ronald Koeman.

Koeman held the club’s record as the player with the most goals scored from the free kick spot, with Koeman scoring 26 free kicks in his career days with Barcelona.

Messi had drawn level with Koeman’s mark with his free kick goal against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey last month.

The Argentine’s 40th minute low shot was on target but Gorka Iraizoz could have kept it out after getting a hand to the effort, but failed to do so.
