The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted and sentenced former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman to a total of 75 years imprisonment over a ₦33.8 billion fraud linked to the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects.
Trial judge James Omotosho delivered the judgement on Wednesday after finding Mamman guilty on all 12 counts of conspiracy and money laundering filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Justice Omotosho ordered that the prison terms imposed on each count should run consecutively, bringing the total sentence to 75 years.
The court sentenced Mamman in absentia and directed that the jail term should begin from the date of his arrest. The judge also ordered security agencies to arrest the former minister wherever he is found.
In addition, the court ordered the forfeiture of all recovered funds and properties linked to the case to the Federal Government and directed Mamman to refund the outstanding balance from the ₦22 billion traced to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric projects.
According to the EFCC, Mamman conspired with ministry officials and private companies to divert about ₦33.8 billion earmarked for the power projects.
The former minister was arraigned on July 11, 2024, and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
During the trial, the EFCC presented 17 witnesses and tendered 43 exhibits as evidence.
Mamman later filed a no-case submission, arguing that the prosecution had failed to establish sufficient evidence against him, but the court dismissed the application in December 2025 and ordered him to open his defence.
The judgement concludes a high-profile corruption case that began with Mamman’s arrest by the EFCC in May 2021.
