The screening committee of the All Progressives Congress has cleared 33 aspirants seeking to contest for seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly ahead of the party’s 2027 primaries, while 65 others were disqualified.

According to the committee’s final report obtained on Monday, all 29 incumbent lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, successfully passed the screening exercise, which concluded on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

The report stated that the exercise was conducted peacefully and commended aspirants, party officials, and security personnel for their cooperation throughout the process.

Among those cleared were Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol, Major M. Jack, Nwabochi Frankline, Tonye Smart Adoki, Hope Ugwumadu, Kenneth Minimah, Justina Aniton Okorji, Onyema Rex Nwankwo, Peter E. Abbey, Barida Alice Samuel, Arnold O. Davids, Gerald C. Oforji, and Amakri Awowari, among others.

The committee also confirmed that the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, opted to pursue a seat in the House of Representatives and was therefore not among the Assembly aspirants screened.

According to the report, aspirants were disqualified for several reasons, including failure to provide valid voter cards or party membership slips, submission of unsworn affidavits, conflicting dates of birth, irregular documentation, invalid or insufficient nominators, and alleged attempts to induce or bribe officials during the exercise.

Some of the aspirants not cleared include Orubibanugha Timothy, Tonye Briggs Oniyide, Chijioke Kemzunum Ihunwo, Claudius Princewill, Prince Emukuighro Fubara, Chinondu Wokocha, Tamunotonye Briggs, Victory Victor Uchendu, Murphy Deemua, Solomon Deesi Lenu, and Macsunday Uziuke Ugwu.

The outcome of the screening is expected to shape the internal dynamics of the APC in Rivers State as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
