The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has said there is a lot of pleasure when people dump the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He made the statement while receiving six PDP lawmakers in the state who announced their defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).
The defection was announced through a letter addressed to him and signed by the defectors. The Minority Leader, Hon. Hakeem Bello however announced his defection on the floor of the house.
In his welcome speech, Obasa said : “For the fact these people have joined us, let us welcome the defectors. There is a joy in dumping the PDP.”
The defected lawmakers include the Minority Leader, Hon. Akeem Bello (Amuwo Odofin I), the Minority Whip, Hon. Mosunmola Sangodara (Surulere II), Hon. Olusola Sokunle (Oshodi/Isolo I),Hon. Dayo Famakinwa (Ajeromi/Ifelodun II), Hon. Oluwa Fatai (Ajeromi/Ifelodun I) and Hon. Jude Odimogu (Oshodi/Isolo II).
The defectors cited the outstanding performance of Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and the ongoing leadership tussle in the PDP as some of the reasons that informed their decision.
“We are all aware of what is happening in the PDP,” said Sangodara, the only female lawmaker among the defectors.
While wishing the defectors well in their new party, the two remaining lawmakers left in the opposition in the Assembly, Hon. Victor Akande (Ojo I) and Hon. Oladipo Olorunrinu (Amuwo Odofin I) also commended the performance of Governor Ambode and Obasa’s leadership style.
