The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi says lethal weapons, including petrol bombs and a double barrel gun were recovered during last Sunday’s raid on the home of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu by a combined team of Police and Military personnel.
Ogbizi made the revelation on Thursday during an interactive session with journalists in Umuahia and added that incriminating documents and letters about IPOB’s activities and plans were also recovered during the operation.
He further revealed that one person was arrested during the operation which was carried out based on an intelligence report regarding the continued activities of some members of the group.
“We recovered many of Biafra’s insignias, staff of office and some of those items are being analyzed,” Ogbizi said.
He added that the team also discovered some telephone numbers belonging to suspected coordinators of the group and added that the communications between the leadership of the group and their collaborators would be thoroughly analyzed.
The police chief stressed that similar joint operations would intermittently be carried out on Kanu’s residence as the activities of the group was stirring insurrection in the South – East region of the country.
