President Muhammadu Buhari has apologized to Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara over the behavior of some Aso Rock security operatives whose actions prompted the duo alongside other lawmakers to turn back from a scheduled dinner with him.

The lawmakers, jointly led by Saraki and Dogara to the dinner which was scheduled for 8:30pm, had arrived the Presidential Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa ahead of the scheduled time.

Trouble was however said to have started when security operatives on duty at the Pilot Gate insisted that all the Federal lawmakers except Saraki and Dogara must alight from the Coaster bus that conveyed them and undergo a security check.

The directive was said to have infuriated the National Assembly members who protested angrily, prompting Saraki and Dogara to direct that they all be turned back from attending the dinner.

When contacted, Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity confirmed the incident and attributed it the behavior of some overzealous operatives.

Garba said when President Buhari was informed about the unfortunate incident, he hurriedly sent his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari to investigate the matter and make peace with the aggrieved lawmakers.

He further revealed that Saraki and Dogara later returned to have dinner with the President and Vice President during which Buhari apologized for the embarrassing incident and rescheduled the dinner with other principal officers of the National Assembly for Tuesday next week.

“The Senate President and the Speaker returned and they just finished dinner with the President. President Buhari has apologized to them,” Shehu said.
