Liberia’s Supreme Court on Monday suspended the planned October 7 presidential run-off elections in the country and ordered the electoral body to investigate allegations of fraud in the first round of the elections.
The court ruled that the run-off which had been slated to hold on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 be put on hold until the National Elections Commission (NEC) completes its investigations of the allegations lodged by the leader and candidate of the Liberty Party (LP) in the October 10 elections, Charles Walker Brumskine.
The run-off was scheduled to be a face-off between the top two candidates in the first polls; ex-international footballer, George Weah and incumbent vice-president Joseph Boakai to determine who replaces Africa’s first democratically elected female President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
