Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has admitted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not popular in the south-eastern part of the country and has promised to strengthen the party in the zone.
Okorocha, who spoke on Tuesday at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport on his arrival from a brief foreign trip also promised that the local government elections in the state will hold in June.
The Governor called on the State House of Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, ‘perfect the Local Government Laws’ so that the elections which he had delayed since assuming office could be conducted.
He also reaffirmed his endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the 2019 Presidential polls and also that of his Chief of Staff and son-in-law, Uche Nwosu to contest the gubernatorial polls in the state.
“Let those criticizing these endorsements present their own aspirants or candidates if they think or feel that what they have is better than what we have endorsed, so that the people can look at the whole of them and make their choice. You don’t criticize an action if you do not have a better action,” Okorocha said.
He promised that the APC primaries in the state would be free, fair and transparent despite the fact that his son-in-law is one of the aspirants.
