The northern socio-political group, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) says it was yet to decide on President Muhammadu Buhari’s ambition to run for a second term in the 2019 presidential elections.
Speaking over the weekend, the Chairman of the forum, Ibrahim Coomasie noted that the ACF would soon give directives on which presidential candidate the North would cast their votes for.
A former Inspector General of Police, Coomasie said it was too early to decide whether the group would support Buhari’s re-election bid, adding that the groups that passed a vote of no confidence on the President were on their own.
His words: “We said that leadership must come back to the north and we said that any party that nominated a northerner, we would support the person and the party.
“Then APC nominated President Buhari and then I came out to say that we would support him and we did support him. So, it is now left for him and his political party. Because it is until his political party decides to give him the ticket or not. If his party decides to re-nominate him, then we can talk.”\
He maintained that the ACF is the umbrella body of all northern groups and organizations, adding; “Even though it is too early for me to comment on President Buhari’s re-election bid, let me say that he has the constitutional right to contest for the presidency of this country just like he did in 2015.”
