Fayose

The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has said that he might contest the 2018 governorship election in the state if the judicial interpretation of his illegal removal from office during his first tenure favours him.

Fayose gave the hint on Monday while answering questions as to why his images have been appearing on campaign posters across the state during a live programme on Ekiti State Television.

He stated that since the Supreme Court had ruled that his impeachment in 2006 was illegal, he would approach the same court to interpret the meaning of the ruling to ascertain if it would enable him seek re-election and complete his term.

“The continuity posters you are seeing with my image which are spreading across the state can be interpreted in two ways. First, it is the need for me to ask the apex court to explain its 2014 ruling that my so called impeachment in 2014 was illegal, null and void and for me to consider re-election in 2018 so that I can complete my term,” Fayose stated.

“Second is for me to get our own man, one who is like Ayo Fayose to continue after my tenure in 2018,” he added.

The governor, who was first sworn in on May 2003 and impeached on October 16, 2006, added that the case to determine is if he was entitled to complete his first tenure or not and must first be determined in the court of law before there would be another governorship election in the state come 2018.
