Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other prominent politicians have paid a solidarity visit to former Plateau Governor and serving senator, Jonah David Jang who is being remanded in Jos Prison over an allegation of money laundering and misappropriation of state funds.

Mr. Luka Ayedoo, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Plateau Command of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) confirmed the visit to newsmen in Jos, the state capital on Monday.

Ayedo said others who visited the senator over the weekend included Prof. Jerry Gana, a former chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Chris Giwa, a chieftain of the PDP in the state as well as some lawmakers from the South-South region.

He said: “At the weekend, a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, senators and other notable Nigerians who came on a solidarity visit to Sen. Jonah Jang. Even though Jang is in prison custody, he still reserves the right to be visited and so we won’t deny him that right.”

He however said some restrictions have been placed on the calibre of people who visit the senator, adding only few of his political allies, family members and his lawyer are given express permission to see him so as not to turn the prison yard to a political forum.

Justice Daniel Longji of the Plateau High Court, Jos, had on May 16 ordered that the senator representing Plateau North Senatorial district in the National Assembly be remanded in prison after refusing him bail for allegedly misappropriating over ₦16 billion.
