The incumbent Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the July 14 gubernatorial elections in the state.

After a keenly contested primary election held on Tuesday at the Eagle Center in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the Chairman of the organizing committee of the primaries, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State announced that Eleka amassed a total of 1,191 votes to defeat his opponent and former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye who garnered a total of 770.

According to Okowa, out of the estimated 2,086 delegates registered for the elections, a total of 1,968 were accredited while 7 votes were declared void at the end of the exercise.

Earlier, one of the candidates and the Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Abiodun Olujimi stepped down for Prince Adeyeye, saying she needed to sacrifice her governorship ambition in the interest of peace, progress and stability of the party.
