The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results so far released by Returning Officers (ROs) in last Saturday’s Local government elections in Kaduna State.

According to results announced by the ROs at the various local government headquarters, the APC swept the polls in 15 out of the 23 local governments in the state with the PDP winning in three while the results in five local governments s is still being awaited.

The APC won in Soba, Zaria, Lere, Ikara, Makarfi, Birnin-Gwari, Giwa, Kagarko, Kudan, Igabi, Kajuru and Kaduna North Local Government Areas while the PDP emerged victorious in Zango-Kataf, Kauru and Sanga, all in the Kaduna South Senatorial district.

The PDP alleges that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in collaboration with the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) had stolen the mandate given it by the Kaduna people in the elections.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday at the party’s secretariat in Kaduna, the PDP state chairman, Hon. Felix Hassan Hyet said the party would soon release its field results of the polls, alleging that some of the Returning Officers who were expected to collate the result disappeared after the polls.

Hyet, a former Minister of Aviation also alleged that the PDP had been shortchanged in the results so far announced, adding that the party agents on the field had submitted reports which would aid them in following legal means to address the injustices meted out to the party.

Hyet said: “The most disturbing thing is after the elections have been concluded in many polling units, the Returning Officers suddenly disappeared from their polling units, leaving the polling clerks with results in their hands, with police and some of the party agents stranded.”

“We received information that an adviser to the governor was going round all the local government areas with soldiers accompanying him and directing electoral officers to withdraw.

“If they are no longer conducting the election, let them come out with a public announcement for us to know the next line of action to take.”
