Troops of Operation Hadin Kai and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have killed 10 Boko Haram terrorists during a fierce exchange of gunfire along the Rann–Gamboru Ngala axis, near Nigeria’s border with Cameroon.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, confirmed the development on Tuesday, describing the encounter as a key victory in ongoing efforts to flush out remaining Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements in the Lake Chad Basin.

“The encounter occurred during a combined operation strategically designed and executed to flush out remnants of BH/ISWAP terrorists operating within the border communities,” Kangye said.

He explained that troops, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the terrorists’ hideout between Rann and Gamboru, leading to an intense gunfight. The insurgents were reportedly overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the Nigerian and MNJTF forces.

Following the engagement, troops recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including anti-aircraft rounds. The recovered weapons are now undergoing technical analysis, while follow-up operations continue in a bid to locate fleeing fighters and dismantle other hideouts in the region.

Major General Kangye emphasized that the operation is part of a broader strategy aimed at dominating the southern flank of the Lake Chad Basin and halting cross-border terrorist movement.

He reiterated the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s unwavering commitment, in collaboration with the MNJTF, hybrid forces, and other security agencies, to intensify clearance operations in Northern Borno and surrounding areas until all terrorist strongholds are neutralized.
