Factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party, and Accord Party have rejected plans to adopt a joint presidential candidate for the 2027 elections following an opposition summit in Ibadan.
The groups distanced themselves from the meeting, describing it as unauthorised and insisting those who attended did not represent their official leadership. They reaffirmed plans to field separate presidential candidates against President Bola Tinubu.
The PDP faction aligned with Nyesom Wike dismissed the summit as illegitimate, while rival ADC factions also denied involvement, urging focus on internal party issues instead of coalition talks.
The Labour Party said it is prioritising internal restructuring, while the Accord Party warned of possible legal action over the alleged unauthorised use of its identity at the meeting.
The development highlights deep divisions within the opposition, casting doubt on efforts to form a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
