The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its governorship primaries across several states, producing candidates including Obafemi Hamzat in Lagos, Solomon Adeola (Yayi) in Ogun, Sharafadeen Alli in Oyo, Kingsley Chinda in Rivers, and Sheriff Oborevwori in Delta State.
The exercise, held across the country, featured direct primaries, consensus arrangements, and affirmation votes in various states, with many incumbents and party-backed aspirants securing tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In Lagos State, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat emerged as the party’s governorship candidate after a direct primary conducted across the state. In Ogun, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, also secured the APC ticket following a landslide victory.
In Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli clinched the governorship ticket after sweeping the primary across local government areas, while in Rivers State, former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, emerged unopposed as the party’s candidate.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori also secured the APC ticket through affirmation by party members across the state, while several other governors and aspirants were endorsed in similar consensus arrangements.
Other notable winners include Mustapha Gubio in Borno, Dikko Radda in Katsina, Ahmed Aliyu in Sokoto, and Peter Mbah in Enugu, all of whom emerged through affirmation or consensus-backed primaries.
The APC said the exercises were largely peaceful and reflected internal democracy, unity, and growing support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections,
