The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a suit seeking to stop Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following her alleged suspension by party executives in Wuse Ward, Abuja.

Justice Peter Lifu, in a ruling delivered on Friday, held that issues relating to party discipline and suspension are internal affairs of political parties and do not require court intervention.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, was filed by Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel on behalf of ADC members in Wuse Ward. They had asked the court to restrain the FCT senator from parading herself as a member of the party or participating in ADC activities pending the determination of the case.

The plaintiffs alleged that Kingibe was suspended on March 10, 2026, over anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and alleged confiscation of ward records. They also accused her of holding parallel meetings and intimidating ward executives despite the suspension.

However, Justice Lifu questioned why those who carried out the suspension were seeking judicial validation of their own action, noting that it was the suspended senator who should challenge the disciplinary action if aggrieved.

Describing the suit as frivolous and baseless, the judge invoked Sections 82 and 83 of the Electoral Act and imposed a N10 million fine on the plaintiffs, payable to Senator Kingibe.

The court also fined the plaintiffs’ counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kolawole Olowookere, N10 million, also payable to the senator.
