Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed that he almost lost his position during the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis involving Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Speaking at a meeting of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday, Gbajabiamila said President Tinubu raised concerns with him over reports linking lawmaker Desmond Elliot to the impeachment plot against Obasa.

According to him, Tinubu invited him to Abuja during the crisis and mentioned intelligence reports suggesting Elliot was among lawmakers involved in the move against the Speaker.

Gbajabiamila said he denied involvement in the plot and later contacted Elliot, urging him to distance himself from the group allegedly behind the impeachment.

He further disclosed that the Director-General of the Department of State Services later informed him that his name was also being linked to the impeachment crisis.

Gbajabiamila said he advised Elliot to publicly deny involvement in the saga, but claimed the lawmaker had yet to do so.

The Lagos Assembly crisis had led to Obasa’s temporary impeachment before he was eventually restored.
