The Federal High Court in Abeokuta on Wednesday affirmed the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Buruji Kashamu as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
In his ruling, Justice Abubakar Shittu dismissed the suit filed by a member of the House of Representatives, Oladipupo Adebutu which challenged the nomination of Kashamu as the party’s candidate.
Justice Shittu said the case was statute-barred having been caught up with the fourth alteration, holding that the cause of action arose on April 12, 2018 whereas the suit was filed in December 2018.
The court further held that the plaintiffs (PDP and its officers) were stopped from re-litigating the issue of who has the power to conduct its primary elections in Ogun State and submit the list of candidates.
On the originating summons, the court held that the reliefs sought by Adebutu could not be granted because the national leadership of the PDP conducted its primaries in flagrant violation of the judgment of the court in Suit No. FHC/L/CS/636/2016.
Reacting to the judgment, Kashamu, speaking through his media aide, Austin Oniyokor said what was most important is that all members of the party were working as a team by holding reconciliation meetings and strategizing together.
