The National Economic Council (NEC) has given all Nigerian states until September 9, 2024, to declare their stance on the establishment of State Police. This decision was reached during a NEC meeting held on Wednesday, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Briefing journalists after the meeting at the State House in Abuja, Acting Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, revealed that four of Nigeria’s 36 states have yet to submit their positions on the matter. NEC has directed these states to submit their stance by Monday.
Although the specific states were not disclosed, NEC warned that any state failing to respond by the deadline would have no choice but to accept the final decision made on the issue.
