Dr. Adetokunbo Agbolade Oyeleye is a dedicated and highly experienced gynaecologist and obstetrician. He has a track record spanning over 20 years in providing comprehensive women’s healthcare. With a focus on delivering compassionate and evidence-based care, he is committed to reducing maternal mortality in Nigeria.
Dr. Oyeleye currently serves as a Consultant Gynaecologist/Senior Registrar at the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos – a role where he applies his extensive knowledge and surgical expertise daily to manage complex cases and foster positive patient outcomes.
A highly qualified professional, Dr. Oyeleye holds a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B.) from Olabisi Onabanjo University (2005), a Master’s in Public Health (M.P.H.) from Lagos State University (2010), a Diploma in Family Medicine from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (2010), and a Master’s in Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Lagos (2017).
Beginning his career as a Senior Medical Officer at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital (2005–2009), Dr. Oyeleye provided specialized consultations for complex cases, leading surgical teams in major procedures. As Principal Medical Officer at Randle General Hospital’s Maternity and Child Centre (2009–2015), he delivered comprehensive care, performed surgeries like laparoscopic hysterectomies and cesarean sections, managed high-risk pregnancies, and mentored juniors. Since 2015, he has worked at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital where he has supervised teams, mentored residents, engaged in research, implemented quality measures, and shaped policies on women’s health.
His dedication to clinical improvement is evidenced by his research and achievements. His research includes studies on the Association of Trichomonas Vaginalis and Spontaneous Preterm Birth (2024), the Effect of Polycystic Ovaries on Fertility (2020), the Incidence of Placenta Previa (2020), Pattern and Awareness of Pregnant Mother Transmission of HIV to Child Patients (2010), all focusing on patients at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital. His practical achievements include successfully implementing a new treatment protocol that resulted in improved patient outcomes, reducing complication rates amongst women patients through evidence-based interventions, and establishing an infertility clinic program to address unmet healthcare needs. These accomplishments showcase his commitment to pioneering clinical improvements in the hospital.
He is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (2025). He is also a Member of the Faculty of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (2022), and he holds an Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Certificate. His professional trainings include Ultrasound Scan in Obstetrics (2023), Best Ward Labour Practice (2023), Leadership & Management (2022), and an Update Course in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
