President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday night met with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other organised labour unions over the planned nationwide protest scheduled for Wednesday.

The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, came amid mounting concerns over worsening insecurity across the country, which labour unions say has left workers and citizens increasingly vulnerable.

Leaders of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) used the engagement to present their demands, urging the federal government to take stronger and more decisive action to address rising cases of banditry, kidnappings and violent crimes nationwide.

The planned protest, according to the NLC, is intended to compel urgent government intervention on insecurity and has attracted support from workers’ groups, civil society organisations and concerned Nigerians.

Labour officials have stressed that the demonstration will be peaceful, appealing to participants and security agencies to ensure public safety, as anxiety over insecurity continues to grow among citizens and businesses nationwide.
