President Bola Tinubu has conferred Nigeria’s second-highest national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), on Lebanese-Nigerian billionaire businessman Gilbert Chagoury.

Although the honour was approved on January 8, it was not formally announced by the Presidency. The award became public on Monday after billionaire investor Femi Otedola shared a copy of the conferment document on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In his post, Otedola congratulated Chagoury, describing the recognition as well deserved. He cited Chagoury’s “visionary and impactful leadership” as well as his contributions to major projects and job creation across the country.

Chagoury, a long-time ally of President Tinubu, has remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s business and infrastructure space. He has played key roles in several major real estate and infrastructure developments in Lagos, including Eko Atlantic City and projects on Banana Island.

Otedola, in his congratulatory message, praised Chagoury’s contributions to Lagos’ development.
