Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have intercepted a truck loaded with thousands of military camouflage uniforms, suspected illicit drugs and shoes allegedly being transported to the South-East.
The seizure was made by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit during an intelligence-led operation in Epe in the early hours of Saturday.
Four suspects were arrested in connection with the consignment. They were identified as logistics manager Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi, 45; truck driver Ezugu Chukwuma, 38; motor-boy Chinedu David, 29; and delivery agent Ndidiamaka Emeka, 43.
According to the police, the unregistered MAN diesel truck was heading to Aba, Abia State, when it was intercepted. A search of the vehicle uncovered about 8,000 military camouflage uniforms concealed in 47 bags, each containing 150 pieces, as well as 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs and a quantity of shoes.
Police said a fifth suspect, identified simply as Anthony and believed to have coordinated the shipment, is currently at large.
Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, who paraded the suspects and exhibits at the command headquarters, said operatives tracked the truck from the Lekki axis before intercepting it in Epe.
He noted that the large quantity of military uniforms was particularly concerning given the increasing use of such attire by criminal elements across the country.
Fatai added that investigations were ongoing to determine the source of the items, identify the intended recipients and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
