The whistle-blowing policy of the current administration took a wrong turn on Tuesday when 50-year- old Ahmed Echodo was remanded in prison for allegedly giving false information that led to the raid on a guest house belonging to Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
Based on the alleged false information given by Echodo that the guest house was used for criminal activities, men of the Nigeria Police Force carried out a search on the property located at No 10 Games Street, Maitama District, Abuja. During the raid, a steward in the guest house, Mr. Oliver Ogenyi was arrested and later released after interrogation.
Since the police could not find incriminating evidence at the guest house, Echodo was arraigned in an Upper Area Court in Gudu, Abuja for misleading them and giving false information to law enforcement.
Echodo however pleaded not guilty and was consequently remanded in prison custody by the Presiding Judge, Umar Kagarko pending the ruling on his bail application scheduled for June 5.
