Governors of the South-East geo-political region of Nigeria have resolved to engage the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu over the agitators’ absolute demands.
The resolution by the governors was the outcome of their lengthy meeting with the IPOB leader at the Enugu State Government House on Wednesday.
Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi said the meeting which deliberated on the demands of IPOB, would be replicated to amicably resolve the demands of IPOB which he insisted must not be absolute.
“The South-East Governors today, 30th day of August 2017, met with the leader of IPOB, Prince Nnamdi Kanu, together with Professor Ben Nwabueze, SAN, and Evangelist Elliot Uko (President of Igbo Youth Movement). The meeting deliberated on the demands of IPOB and noted their concerns accordingly,” Umahi said.
“However, the meeting agreed that these demands by IPOB should not be absolute but rather, the South-East governors shall immediately engage the leader of IPOB in further meetings and dialogue with a view to quickening the resolutions of all issues amicably,” he added.
Governor Umahi revealed that the governors of Imo, Rochas Okorocha and Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu were currently not in the country and therefore could not attend the meeting.
