Nigeria’s immediate past president, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has admitted that his administration was unable to take all the stringent steps towards ending the menace of corruption in the country.

Speaking at Eagles Square, Abuja, venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) non-elective national convention, Jonathan said it was however wrong to believe that the economy of the nation would have been in a worse state than it is now if his administration was not ousted from power in 2015.

Flanked by his former Vice, Namadi Sambo, some governors and chieftains of the party, Jonathan said: “Though we didn’t completely plug the loopholes in the fight against corruption, we did well.

“I learnt that some people said if the PDP had remained in power beyond 2015, the economy would have been worse. This couldn’t have been the case, because we had a sound economic team in place.”

He said despite the great flood of 2012 which damaged farmlands and homes on the River Niger and Benue plains, there were no cases of food shortages or arbitrary increases in food prices because of his administration’s Agriculture Transformation Agenda which boosted food production.

He affirmed that his government rekindled the hope of Nigerians with its policies and programmes which were copied by many countries as they were richly rewarding for the Nigerian masses.
